Our History & Ethos
Our History and Ethos
SAIC was formed in January 2021 as a merger between two long standing angel investors clubs who had already been working closely together for a number of years, Surrey Investors Club (SIC) and the Hampshire based Angels 5K Network (A5K). It subsequently also absorbed Kent Investors Network (KIN).
Being either entrepreneurs or corporate leaders ourselves, we understand what new businesses need. We invest not only our money but also often our time in helping them start and grow. Since 2021 we have invested £3m over 50 companies. Read about some of these companies in our portfolio.
SAIC is more than just an investment vehicle. This club is about people, its members and the co-operative working with other clubs and networks in the area. It is run by members, for members and many friendships have developed as a result. We are willing to share views without fear, there is an openness and trust that is refreshing despite regulatory inspired disclaimers that we all understand. There is also a social element to the club with two fine dining groups and an annual social event where we invite our partners to join us. Our December event features a festive lunch where we invite a few CEOs of recent investments to give very brief updates before socialising with their investors over lunch.
The club is managed by a leadership team of seven members with administrative support. We encourage participation from all members; we rotate chairmanship and selection panels for each meeting and appoint a member to co-ordinate follow up and due diligence activities after each meeting. By combining efforts and following good processes we are efficiently able to reach a decision on making an investment. We make decisions and invest as individuals but retain collective discussion groups to monitor and continue support to companies after the investment is made.
We keep our membership fee low and exempt many from this due to level of investment or contribution to running the club.
To limit the time from our team we do not seek cold applications from companies (although we do accept such), preferring to take recommendations from our members who hunt widely and from neighbouring clubs / networks with whom we have sharing arrangements.
We welcome guests interested to join our club.
